The GMC Thrive Index is a simple 7-pillar snapshot of your current wellbeing. Each pillar is scored between 1 and 10, helping you understand how your body, mind, and daily life are tracking right now.
Below, you’ll find a breakdown of what your score means in each area.
This is not about judgement. It’s about awareness, because awareness creates change.
1. Energy Levels
1–3: Running on Empty
Low daily energy, feeling sluggish, difficulty staying alert or productive.
4–6: Up and Down
Energy comes in waves. Some days feel good, others feel draining.
7–8: Generally Energised
Most days feel solid, with only occasional dips.
9–10: High Vitality
Consistently energised, alert, and ready to take on the day.
2. Mental Wellbeing
1–3: Feeling Mentally Flat or Overwhelmed
Stress, low mood, or mental fatigue may be dominating.
4–6: Mixed Headspace
You cope well at times but feel mentally heavy at others.
7–8: Good Mental Space
Mostly positive, calm, and balanced with manageable stress.
9–10: Strong Mental Wellbeing
Feeling mentally sharp, positive, and emotionally steady day to day.
3. Sleep Quality
1–3: Disrupted or Poor Sleep
Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking unrefreshed.
4–6: Inconsistent Sleep
Some good nights, some poor ones, often waking tired or groggy.
7–8: Generally Good Sleep
Waking rested most days, with only occasional disturbances.
9–10: Deep, Restorative Sleep
Consistently high-quality rest that supports recovery and mood.
4. Confidence in Movement
1–3: Low Confidence
Unsure about movement, fearful of injury, or avoiding certain tasks/exercises.
4–6: Building Confidence
Comfortable with some movements but hesitant with others.
7–8: Movement Comfortable
Able to move confidently in daily life and most exercise situations.
9–10: High Confidence & Control
Strong trust in your body, coordination, and movement ability.
5. Ability to Handle Daily Tasks Without Pain or Fatigue
1–3: High Limitation
Pain, stiffness, or fatigue regularly interfere with everyday tasks.
4–6: Some Difficulty
You can manage daily life, but discomfort or tiredness pops up often.
7–8: Mostly Comfortable Functioning
Able to complete daily tasks with minimal discomfort or strain.
9–10: Fully Capable
Moving through everyday life with ease, strength, and comfort.
6. Sense of Community or Connection
1–3: Feeling Disconnected
Not feeling supported, involved, or connected to others around you.
4–6: Some Connection
You know a few people, feel comfortable… but not fully connected yet.
7–8: Strong Connection
You feel part of the community and look forward to engaging.
9–10: Deep Sense of Belonging
Strong relationships, support, and a genuine sense of “my people.”
7. Stress Management
1–3: Overwhelmed
Stress feels constant or hard to manage, affecting mood, sleep, or energy.
4–6: Managing, But It’s Tough
Some stress is manageable, but it still affects you regularly.
7–8: Solid Coping
You manage stress well, with only occasional periods of difficulty.
9–10: Highly Resilient
You respond to stress effectively and maintain calm and balance most of the time.
